Monday, July 14

This morning we began our second and final week of classes.  During our culture class, we learned about the art of Flamenco: everything from common vocabulary to the origin of Flamenco dancing.  During this culture class, it was interesting to relate the newly learned vocabulary and history to what we saw last week during the Flamenco show.  At the end of culture class, just like usual, we listened to  various Flamenco songs in Spanish.

At 5:45, we all met in the Plaza Mayor before we began our salsa dancing lesson.  Going into the lesson, I thought I would be able to pick up on the basic technique of salsa dancing fairly quickly since I have danced ballet my whole life.  However, once Julian, our instructor, asked us to join him in dancing, I think we all realized salsa dancing is much harder than we had previously thought.  By the end of the lesson, however, everyone seemed to have caught on to the basic rhythm of the steps.
